What better way to start the blog of my coming adventures than to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!

Let me do a little introduction for those that do not know me. I am Amanda Klehr, I go by Mandy and I am a recent Portland State University grad. Took me seven years to finish my Bachelor's of Science in Biology, but at least I got it done! A couple of weeks ago I got the news from the
Wildlife Conservation Society (the group I volunteered my time to complete tedious data entry for) that I will be working on their artificial nest and pad rehabilitation project in Alaska. Whoa! Not only have I never been to Alaska, but I certainly never imagined I would have the opportunity to travel to the arctic coastal plain of Alaska, pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Well, in the middle of an oilfield, so there is some "civilization" to return to after a hard day's work. This will begin at the end of May and I will be posting here before as well as when it starts (and probably after too).
Well, enough of that since more will come later as I prepare for this amazing opportunity. Before this adventure begins, I am currently working at Portland State University as a
Turning Technologies Intern. Sounds fancy, and it mostly is. I help faculty and staff learn how to use Classroom Response Technology or "clickers." It's a pretty good gig, and they are allowing me to return to it after I finish the research in Alaska, which I couldn't be happier about. I get a job doing something awesome and that I love and get to keep my current job when I return?!? Yes, please!
So, that is it. I hope that you all come along on this journey with me. Mostly I have put this up here for my family and friends so they can check in on me when I am gone, but I welcome all who are interested!
